Getting started
Do I need to be good at writing?
Not at all. You can answer any prompt by typing, speaking, recording your voice, drawing, or adding a photo or video. A few honest words are plenty.
How long does it take?
As long as you like. Quick guides take about five minutes. Deeper guides can take 20 minutes or more.
Is Mirror Dear therapy?
No. Mirror Dear is a tool for everyday reflection. It isn't a medical or mental health service. If you're struggling, please talk to a doctor or a qualified professional. In the UK you can call Samaritans free on 116 123, any time.
What is Mirror Dear?
Mirror Dear is a reflection app. It guides you through thoughtful questions, one at a time, and keeps your answers in a private diary. You can also write freely, talk an entry through with AI that runs on your phone, and see your patterns over time.
When can I get it?
Mirror Dear launches on 5 December 2026 on the App Store and Google Play. Leave your email and we'll tell you the moment it's live.
Which phones does it work on?
Mirror Dear works on iPhone and Android. The AI features need a recent phone, because the AI runs on your device. Everything else works on older phones too.
Guides
Are community guides checked?
Published guides follow our community guidelines, and anyone can report a guide that doesn't.
Can I make my own guide?
Yes. Build one from scratch or copy a guide you like and change it. Set a timer and colours, and get AI suggestions. Keep it private, share it with friends or publish it to the community library.
What is a guide?
A guide is a set of prompts for a particular moment, like starting your day, working through a decision or noticing what you're grateful for. You answer one prompt at a time, then save the result to a diary.
Who writes the guides?
Some guides are written by the Mirror Dear founders. Many more are written by our community of creators. Each guide shows who made it.
Privacy and AI
Can I export or delete my data?
Yes. Export everything as markdown at any time, or delete your account and all your data in one step.
Can Mirror Dear read my diary?
No. Your entries are encrypted on your phone and synced with end-to-end encryption, so only your devices hold the key.
Can other people see my entries?
No. Entries are always private. Only guides you choose to publish, and posts you make in the community, are visible to others.
Do I have to use the AI?
No. The AI only runs when you tap an AI feature.
What if I forget my password or lose my phone?
Reset your password by email. To unlock your diary on a new phone, use the recovery key you got when you signed up. We can't unlock your diary without it, because we can't read it.
Where does the AI run?
On your phone. That keeps your words private, lets the AI work offline, and means nothing you write is used to train AI models.
Cost and support
Are there ads?
No, and we don't sell your data.
Do events cost anything?
Many community events are free. Some workshops with guest experts have a small fee, which is shown before you RSVP.
Is Mirror Dear free?
Yes. Mirror Dear is free to download and use. If you'd like to help keep it independent and ad-free, you can support us with whatever amount feels right.
